Who We Are
The National Political Do Not Contact Registry
is a program by Citizens for Civil Discourse, a
non-partisan non-profit organization dedicated
to helping to elevate political discourse in
the USA.
We are ordinary citizens who want to bring real political discourse back to American political life.
We believe strongly that political discourse has become increasingly uncivil over the past generation and that something needs to be done.
One small action that can make a large difference is the elimination of political phone calls, specifically automated phone calls, that interrupt voters from all sides and reduce political participation significantly.

CEO & Founder - Shaun Dakin
Shaun Dakin, CEO and Founder of Citizens for Civil Discourse and the National Political Do Not Contact Registry, a non-partisan non-profit, founded the organization in early 2007 to give control of the political conversation back to the American voter.
Mr. Dakin is a former senior management executive with leading Fortune 500 organizations such as FedEx, and Fannie Mae, as well as Laureate Education and the Motley Fool. He was Sr. Vice President of Product Management at IXI Corporation, a marketing information services company in McLean, VA.
Mr. Dakin observed that American politics has become increasingly negative over the past 30 years. With artificial definitions around "red" and "blue", what is considered political discourse today is simply turning off millions of voters.
Wanting to do something to make better all American lives he believes that the formation of a National Political Do Not Contact Registry will provide a starting point for American voters from all political stripes and all states, red and blue, to take back control of the political discussion from the politicians.
During 2008 he brought the NPDNC Registry from zero to over 85,000 members and helped to drive the national conversation around voter privacy and political robo calls.
In February 2008 Mr. Dakin testified at the U.S. Senate Rules and Administration committee regarding the Robocall Privacy Act.
During the election Mr. Dakin was interviewed by CNN, MSNBC, XM Radio, NPR, CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox news, and was featured in front page stories in USA Today, the San Fransisco Chronicle, and the San Jose Mercury news amongst many others.
As a thought leader, he published several op-eds including this one in the Washington Post calling for a Privacy Bill of Rights for voters.
Mr. Dakin received his MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, AZ with a concentration in High Technology Marketing and his BA in Government from Colby College in Waterville, ME. He received his 'A' levels from the Harrow School in London, UK and his high school degree from Salisbury School in Salisbury, CT.
He lives in Falls Church, VA with his wife and his son.
